Q: How do I prevent my food from burning?

A: If your food is burning, it is either because the medium on your stove is too high or when you turn it down to low, the temperature is NOT low enough and the cookware is not fully sealed. Here are a couple of TIPS to reduce your future meals from scorching or burning.

1. If you are cooking on gas do not rely on “medium” marker on the dial. All stoves are calibrated differently and have more or less output on different settings. It is a best practice to eye ball the flame and ensure that the flame is not too high before you place the pan on the burner.

2. If you are cooking waterless veggies, it works best to put about 1/8” of water at the bottom of the pan. This usually helps supplement the moisture without dissolving nutrients from the food.

3. If you valve is still ticking on the lowest setting, try using a lower output burner. You can also try sliding the pan off the burner until the valve stops ticking. If the valve does not stop ticking on the lowest setting, you may want to get a “heat diffuser”. These can be purchased from amazon or other on-line resellers.
